New jobs, new challenges

It’s been a long time since you’ve heard from me, so it’s high time! In my last update, I had just moved to a small town just outside Copenhagen and was working for Studio Arhoj as a freelance glassblower. In the meantime, we’ve moved again and upgraded to a beautiful apartment in the center of Copenhagen, which we were lucky to find!
I now work for a glassblower named Christian, and his company is called Copenhagenglass. We make glassware for his boutique, such as vases, wine glasses, or champagne glasses, or we collaborate on projects. Our latest project was for a restoration on a bridge in Copenhagen; the bridge needed new windows. Our goal was to get as close to the original as possible, which was quite a challenge but also fun! Christian is a super nice man, and we work well together. The hours vary per week, and we coordinate them because, besides being a glassblower, I’m now also a part-time tour guide! A bike tour guide through Copenhagen for mainly Dutch tourists. We cycle for three hours through the city, passing various highlights, and at each stop, I tell the guests fun facts and history. If you ever visit Copenhagen, feel free to send me an email! In between, I also work for other glassblowers on a freelance basis 😊

Last April, I participated in the art route in Maassluis. A weekend where 43 artists exhibited their work in 12 locations throughout Maassluis. I showed four new artworks there (2 have since found a new owner 🎉). It was great to see so many familiar faces, and I had some good conversations.

Besides working and enjoying myself, I’m also busy studying the Danish language; I go to school in the evening twice a week. I must say, it’s not easy, but I’m lucky that Dutch is my native language. Since Danish and Dutch both originated from the Germanic language, there are quite a few similarities (which is nice for me!). It’s fun to notice my vocabulary gradually increasing, but I’m not there yet.
One last thing I want to tell you because… in two months, I’ll be back in Maassluis! We’re opening an exhibition at Museum Maassluis on September 14th. An exhibition together with 11 other glass artists. We will be the main exhibition there until the end of the year. I’ll send you the invitation for the opening later 😉 But for now, I’m busy creating new works for it, exciting!
