Halfway

2022 - April

I’m having a great time here! Hence, an update slipped my mind a bit.

Today is the first day of the Easter break; many students have returned to their parents’ homes or gone on vacation. But luckily, the school is still open, so there’s plenty for me to do!

Recently, I’ve done a lot of fun things. For instance, we visited a modern art museum (see photo) featuring an exhibition of young glass and ceramic artists who have their studios on Bornholm.

We also visited an old ceramics factory. They still work with ceramics here, using the old molds and glaze recipes, and once a year, they extract clay from the ground on Bornholm and make local clay.

At this location, we selected a work from before 1970 to use as a starting point for our project. I chose the object you can see below. We’re still at the beginning of our project, so results will come later.

However, I have completed another project in recent weeks! This project focused on applying technology to glassblowing. We tried out various techniques and machines.

In the end, I blew a series of glassware that can be stacked to create different surprising shapes. Below, you’ll see some photos.

Sometimes, I also enjoy doing something else than glassblowing. A classmate taught me the basics of pottery, so you might find me behind a pottery wheel in the evening hours. Although, of course, that’s not as enjoyable as glassblowing.

Thanks for reading my update! Below is a short video where you can see the process of one of the objects from my completed project.

Lots of love,

Mirna
